Andy Rooke is one of the foremost experts worldwide in emergency call (eCall). He was part of the original eCall concept team in Europe, and project coordinator for the European eCall projects, which advised European member states on eCall deployment, he is also providing guidance on eCall deployment in Japan, Russia the Middle and Far East.

Andy is a member of CEN 278 Working Group 15 dealing with the technical standards for eCall.

Andy is the Senior Vice President for British-APCO, sitting on the UK Government 999 (911-112) Liaison Committee, and is Chair of the 999 Liaison Committee App Approval Group.

Andy has a wide experience of intelligent transport systems & services having worked in The Netherlands, and Belgium with ERTICO ITS-Europe for the past 8 years

Andy’s background is law enforcement, as a senior UK police officer specialising in road policing. He was also a Senior Investigating Officer for road death. As part of his speciality in telematics and intelligent transport systems, he was a technical advisor to all UK Police Agencies and Road Policing agencies across Europe.

Klaus Werner Schmidt is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Middle East Technical University, Ankara. His research interests include intelligent transportation systems, autonomous vehicles, supervisory control for discrete event systems, industrial automation systems, industrial communication networks, and industrial project control. He is an Associate Editor of the journal “Discrete Event Dynamic Systems: Theory and Applications” and of the “Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences”.

After receiving her degree in Economics from Boğaziçi University, Meltem started her professional carrier at Mercedes Benz Türk A.Ş. sales and marketing department. She was appointed as the head of dealer man-agement and planning division at a young age.

In 1995, she joined the International Management program of Daimler Benz AG in Stuttgart and was in-volved in projects in the Netherlands, South Africa, Switzerland, and Greece.

After returning to Istanbul in 1998, she started as the head of Automobile Sales department. Her enthusiasm for change and learning-based development, however, drove her to take the responsibility of Global Light Commercial Vehicle Marketing department. In 2004 and 2006, she was in charge of the launch of the Vito and Sprinter models across the world including the US and China.

By the end of 2007, she joined the “Business Innovation” group, something unprecedented in the automotive world at that time, as a founding member and was involved in creating and managing the process of imple-menting new business ideas by company employees. Her ambition to find a novel digital solution to the problem of finding parking lots in big cities, an issue frequently voiced by many employees in this context, took her to San Francisco and to the world of start-ups. There, she managed the cooperation agreement and share acquisition process with a start-up involved in reserving parking lots. With this project, she joined the newly established Daimler Mobility Services company that focuses on new transportation services of the future along with Car2Go and Moovel initiatives set up within the same group in 2013.

Osman D Altan received B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from METU in Ankara, Turkey, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of California in Berkeley.

He worked at Space Sciences Laboratory on scientific satellite systems launched by NASA for space exploration. After briefly teaching at Universities, he spent most of his career at General Motors Research & Development Center in Warren, Michigan specializing on vehicle based active safety systems, automated systems, and connected automated systems. He has 18 patents on related subjects and contributed significantly to company’s launch of commercial products on safety, and comfort & convenience systems. Later, he joined VOLPE Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts working on performance requirements of safety systems based on connectivity, and automated vehicle projects. Lastly, he worked at Turner Fairbank Highway Research Center in McLean, Virginia managing several projects related to connected automation, including V2V, V2I based automation and automated heavy vehicles.

Currently, he is the Managing Director of Global Smart Systems, LLC, a consulting firm specializing on sensing, artificial intelligence, automated and connected vehicle systems.
